Foundation investigation for a prestigious 32-story residential tower development on Northern Avenue in central Yerevan. The project required detailed understanding of volcanic tuff foundations and assessment of seismic considerations in this high-risk zone.
Challenge
The site presented complex volcanic stratigraphy with variable tuff densities and existing underground cavities from historical construction. Seismic design requirements for Zone 9 (MSK-64 scale) demanded precise dynamic soil parameters.
Solution
Conducted comprehensive site investigation including 12 boreholes to 45m depth, pressuremeter testing, and detailed laboratory testing program. Cavity detection surveys using ground-penetrating radar supplemented traditional investigation methods.
