Geotechnical investigation for a major 500MW combined cycle power plant near Sangachal terminal. The project involved foundation design support for turbine halls, cooling towers, and associated infrastructure on challenging coastal soils.
Challenge
Coastal location presented difficult ground conditions including loose sandy soils, high groundwater levels, and potential for liquefaction. Heavy turbine foundation loads required careful settlement analysis.
Solution
Executed extensive investigation including 28 boreholes, continuous CPT profiles, and comprehensive laboratory testing. Liquefaction potential analysis using multiple methodologies provided robust design recommendations.
Results
- Complete soil profile characterization to 35m depth
- Liquefaction risk zones mapped with mitigation recommendations
- Pile foundation design parameters for 800-ton turbine loads
- Groundwater control strategy for construction phase
